Sinema Mtaani

Initiated by Alliance Française de Mombasa in 2022, Sinema Mtaani is a free, open-air, traveling film screening program for the general public. The screenings are held in all the sub-counties of Mombasa. The primary objective is to make the 7th art accessible to the largest number of people, especially the youth, considering the general absence of public cinemas across Mombasa. Funded by French government’s Creation Africa programme, Sinema Mtaani also provides a platform for showing quality Kenyan and African cinema.

CinemAlliance & CinéClub

In addition to Sinema Mtaani, CinemAlliance is a monthly francophone film screening which takes place every month in Alliance Française de Mombasa.

The Ciné Club of Alliance Française de Mombasa is The place in Mombasa to join other film enthusiasts and together discover the diversity of African and International cinema, through screenings, discussions and workshops. The Club meets in the Alliance Française screening room Le Ballon Rouge.

Mombasa Ocean Festival

Launched in 2022 and coordinated by the Alliance Française de Mombasa, the Mombasa Ocean Festival seeks to bring marine stakeholders, artists, decision makers and all environment lovers together and sensitize the community, notably children and teenagers, about ecological threats to our precious marine environment and the ways in which we all can better protect it. This event takes place every year on the first week of June.

Burudani Experience

Burudani Experience is a musical programme featuring a live concert. The event seeks to highlight the depth and wealth of musical prowess across the Kenyan coast. Mois de la Francophonie

Every year, the month of March is celebrated as the month of the French language and French-speaking cultures. With concerts, inter-school competitions, literary events etc, the Francophony Month is an opportunity to discover lesser-known French-speaking cultures, especially in Africa, and to celebrate the beauty and the dynamism of the language. The events are organised in partnership with the Embassy of France in Kenya and the Kenya Association of Teachers of French.

Fête de la Musique

The Fête de la Musique, also known in English as World Music Day, is an annual music celebration which usually takes place on or around June 21. On Music Day, citizens and residents are urged to play music outside, in their neighborhoods or in public spaces and parks. The idea for the first all-day musical celebration came from Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture of France, in 1982. At the Alliance Française de Mombasa, we  are happy to take part in these global festivities and we celebrate the musical talents of Mombasa.
