The network of Alliances Françaises is present in 132 countries, more than 830 Alliances Françaises with more than 500,000 students across all courses. The Alliance Française has 3 missions:
The Alliance Française, born in 1883, is the first French-language school and the first cultural NGO in the world. Founded on the associative model and of local law, the Alliances Françaises bring together all those who wish to develop knowledge and taste of the French language, and promote, wherever they are present, intercultural dialogue and exchanges. Led by 15,000 employees and 6,300 volunteer administrators, they bring together nearly 500,000 students and nearly 3.5 million participants in 26,000 events organized on five continents each year. The values of the Alliance Française are exemplary in many respects today: they are the republican ideals of living together, of emancipation through knowledge, openness through dialogue and recognition of the diversity of cultures and languages , first among which is the French language. Each Alliance is managed locally as an independent non-profit organization, in an environment foreign to any political or religious concern. Its purpose is to bring together friends from France and to organize courses in general language and specialties, as well as cultural and cooperation activities, around the world and in France. It ensures the coherence and unity of the movement’s ideal and objectives, while respecting local specificities.
