About the
Alliance Française Mombasa

Founded in 1975, Alliance Française de Mombasa is part of a global network of 830 chapters promoting French language and francophone culture across 135 countries. Backed by a legacy that began in Paris in 1883—with visionaries like Louis Pasteur and Jules Verne—our Mombasa branch fosters strong cultural ties between France and Kenya. It is one of 4 AF in Kenya – with Nairobi, Kisumu and Eldoret – and the only one located in the coastal region.

With 50 years of experience, Alliance Française de Mombasa is now located in vibrant Nyali, our lush garden campus offers an inspiring setting for language learning, cultural events, and community engagement.

Our missions are to offer high quality interactive French lessons to everyone, to foster cultural exchange between France and Kenya and to increase awareness of French and French-speaking cultures.

The values of the Alliance Française are exemplary in many respects today: they are the republican ideals of living together, of emancipation through knowledge, openness through dialogue and recognition of the diversity of cultures and languages.
