KINO LAB
Kino lab training is a project designed and led by AF Mombasa to promote young filmmakers through collaborative workshops.
The first Kino Lab training in Mombasa saw 25 members of the film industry – both, veteran filmmakers and newcomers – come together in a series of interactive sessions. The ultimate goal of the workshop was to work together and produce a film in a limited period of time.
From collective brainstorming on the story and script to the actual filming, the key motto of the workshop was collaboration !
After 5 days of intensive training, the 25 filmmakers from our first Kino Lab gathered for the premiere of their short film.
These 5 days enabled them to collaborate and improve their knowledge of all aspects of film creation, in record time !
KOURMETRAZ VIDEO CHALLENGE – CINEKOUR
When it comes to cultural pursuits in Mombasa, youngsters are first and foremost interested in the visual arts including cinema, photography, broadcasting, video games etc. The abundant interest in this medium is one of the reasons why the Alliance Française de Mombasa continues its actions to support cinema in Mombasa.
8 members of the Coast Filmmakers Association were trained by the French association Cinékour (From Reunion Island). Starting this year, CFA mentors will be running workshops in Mombasa’s public schools. Film and audiovisual education enables young pupils to decipher the language of film, develop their artistic skills and discover new professions.
Thus, our film enthusiasts had a busy week at AF Mombasa. Between introductions, discussions, games, brainstorming, shooting etc., the 24 participants, mentor and trainees, had the opportunity to challenge themselves as a team to create their own short film!
This training workshop was organized as part of Sinema Mtaani programme and the Mombasa International Film Festival , with the support of the French Embassy in Kenya, the Direction des Affaires Culturelles de la Réunion and the Institut Français.
OPEN AIR CINEMA
All these small and large-scale initiatives, designed to promote and highlight the work of local filmmakers, are also accompanied by screenings open to the general public.
We are glad to join hands to promote the local film industry by offering those screening opportunities for young local filmmakers and be part of the national and county initiatives, such as the Mombasa International Film Festival that took place by the end of last year.
